Yes, it’s “Words of Wisdom Wednesday” where I literally take a proverb, phrase or quote from the book entitled “8,789 Words of Wisdom” by Barbara Ann Kipfer, Workman Publishing Company, Inc. that resonates with me that day and expand on its meaning or impact.
Today’s phrase is: Your Very Best Is Good Enough!
For me, the best way to expand on this phrase is to provide some insight from Don Miguel Ruiz‘s book entitled “The Four Agreements,” the fourth agreement, which he points out is really about taking action, is Always do Your Best.
Ruiz explains that our best changes from moment to moment, our best will be different when we are healthy as opposed to sick, after a sleepless night versus a night of rest, doing something for the first time versus the hundredth, just accept it. Furthermore, regardless of the quality, just keep doing your best, no more and no less than your best. Doing too much will deplete you and doing too little will invite self-judgement. In either case, it will take you longer to reach your goal.
Understanding and accepting your best at that very moment seems like common sense, however, its funny how common sense flies out the window when you are presenting a new idea to the board, pitching to investors, interviewing for a new position, on a first date, being a parent, or on the first tee of the company golf tournament, your best just doesn’t seem good enough, does it?
Or perhaps knowing when you have put enough effort is the challenge for you, there is never enough time for fine tuning is there? Oops, look at time!
As always, I invite your comments, ideas and questions.
We become what we think about!
